Ernst Haeckel

Ernst Heinrich Haeckel was born at Potsdam in Prussia on the 16th of February 1834.

He was an eminent biologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, professor and artist.

He discovered, described and named thousands of new species.

Haeckel produced many books whilst he worked as a professor at the University of Jena for 47 years, and by the time of his 60th birthday at Jena in 1894, Haeckel had produced 42 works with nearly 13,000 pages.

His published artworks include over 100 detailed, multi-colour illustrations of animals and sea creatures.
